No Silver Bullet?

According to “A Roadmap for Continued US Leadership to End Global Hunger” (

“Decades of research and action on global hunger and malnutrition have shown that there is no “silver bullet” for addressing this problem.”

Although the organizations that contribute to that publication have some useful idaes, I completely disagree with the above statement. There is a silver bullet.

The silver bullet, the cure, is to care.

While decades go by during which millions and millions slowly die of hunger, a torturous, debilitating, wasting away that brings daily pain, suffering, disease, and degradation, the learned of the world discuss what to do about the problem, which they should. But the short term solution is to feed the starving, for which ample resources already exist.

Massive collaboration is all that is needed. Food exists in suficient quantities to end hunger now. The cure is to care. Do you care?

A Dollar a Day

Millions of children are dying right now
For lack of some beans or a bowlful of grain
The cost of survival’s so low but somehow
It seems that so few are aware of their pain.

I think that so few are aware because I
Prefer to believe they don’t know what goes on
Don’t know that so many poor people must die
Because they don’t have enough food to live on.

And I think that because the world isn’t aware
That for this sole reason the world doesn’t give
And that it’s not because they just do not care
That children are dying whom we could help live.

If the world knew the starving ones all could be fed
Sufficiently on what we daily discard
On some black beans and rice or a loaf of stale bread-
I know it’s not due to their hearts being hard.

I know that you will do what’s within your power
To transform the world at this critical hour
When one person in nine is now fading away
For the terrible lack of a dollar a day.

A dollar a day is what it takes to feed
A starving young child in this hour of need
For a dollar a day you could be that ones saint
Save his life, change his world, and end his lament.

A dollar a day you now throw away
A dollar a day you don’t need
But a dollar a day is a miracle
That all of the starving could feed.

A beautiful sunset bore witness today
Of one hundred thousand who faded away
Because they had nothing to drink or to eat
They starved slowly to death and fell at our feet.

Millions of children are starving to death
As one in nine people are starving on Earth
And we could save them all with a dollar a day
But we avert our eyes while they’re fading away.

Remember we’ll stand someday before the throne
Of the One whom these victims describes as his own
And his anger will burn as He judges those who
Did not feed his sheep as He told us to do.

He Wants Your Heart

If you’re not on the knees of your heart
You’re not walking in humility
Though on physical knees you bend down
It’s not where He would like you to be
It’s your heart that He wants to possess
And to cleanse so that you will be pure
Though you kneel down to pray and confess
And to praise Him, you sure can be sure
That what He wants from you is your heart.
If you love Him then you must obey
What He tells us to do every day
It’s not enough just to declare that
You believe He’s waiting there for you
You have to walk in such a way that
Demonstrates you know that He is true
And that is what He waits for us to do
He waits for you
He wants your heart.

Justice just is

And there is no escaping it

For justice will prevail

Though today they’re raping it

For there’s a holy clerk

Who’s keeping records pure

Annotating every work

Of this you can be sure.

Nothing goes unnoticed

And nothing is forgotten

Of every human act

Whether righteous or plain rotten.

The justice of men

Is as filthy rags to God

Whose Son will come again

To plant beneath the sod

Those who’ve only sown

On Earth an evil wind

Who though they have been warned

Refuse to cease to sin

And so must reap the whirlwind

Justice from God’s hand

Who won’t allow forever

Evil in the land.

The justice in men’s courts

Does not deserve the name

But the justice from above

In no way is the same

As the justice that is bought

By the highest bidder

Sold by men in robes

Who seem to know no better

Than to render verdicts queer

That call good evil and evil good

Who God’s justice do not fear

Although they really should.

Today they’re sending men to jail

Just for their opinion

Which act reflects a trait

That belongs to Satan’s minion

Who serves the king of evil

Who God’s righteousness opposes

Who the truth despises

And whose every act discloses

That he does not value justice

But revels in repression

Of what God has said is righteous

Which he holds in derision.

But justice will prevail

As there is no escaping it

And even though today

They appear to be raping it

God is very patient

Each one will receive

Just what he has coming

As no one can deceive

The Author of Justice

Who sits on the throne

Who when He returns

Will make all things known.

Sometimes you have to wait, despite how eager you are to move forward, as the world is on a different schedule.

While waiting for the world to catch up with God’s will, I have written letters to 13 people, asking them to get involved in the cause of ending starvation. I am writing the letters by hand, hoping that this will at least cause enough curiosity in the recipients that they will read the letters.

So far I have written to my brother, George W. Bush and Laura Bush, Condoleeza Rice, Timothy Hutton, Oprah Winfrey, Mel Gibson, Denzel Washington, George Clooney, Liam Neeson, John Malone (Liberty Media), Joan Baez, and Yo-Yo Ma. I hope to write dozens more letters in the coming weeks, to spread the word that End Starvation Foundation is coming online, and to ask them to dedicate themselves to the cause.

I also expect to set up a table at a Christian bookstore to sell the bookmarks to raise money to cover the cost of incorporation.

Isn’t it time that you did your part?

Good News

It looks as though the incorporation can go ahead very soon. God is providing the required directors and the paperwork should be prepared in about a week. It looks like this will be called “End Starvation Foundation, Inc”.

I am taking one step at a time, not knowing where the path will lead, but only knowing that it is the right path, and that God will open the way before us to do the work He said we should do. I hope you will join in it, either with us or without us.

It is an exciting time. God is moving.
